He was 6. 17 Nov. 1820 ; ed. at Winchester : entered the army, 1844 ; received the Sutlej medal for the campaign of 1846 ; Lieut. Col. 66th Foot, 1885 ; Col. in the army, 1858. By royal lie, 27 Aug. 1885, he took the name of Toicry (being that of his paternal grand- mother) before that of Law. He m. firstly. 23 Nov. 1840, at Stanmore, Midx., Eleanor Cecil, 1st da. of William (Howard), Earl op Wicklow [I.], by Cecil Frances, da. of John James (Hamilton), 1st Marquess of Aheiicorn. She, who was b. 26 April 1817, d. s.p. 15 June 1852, in the isle of Cumbray, Scotland. He m. secondly, 28 June 1855, at Lymington, Hants, Anne Elizabeth, da. of the Rev. John Fitzgerald Day, of Beaufort House, Killaruey. Sho d. 29 Feb. 1860. He m, thirdly 26 Aug. 1863, Isabella, only child of Alexander Ogilby, of Pellipar, co. Londonderry. She d. s.p.m. 22 April 1874, at Holly Spring, Bracknell, Berks. He m. fourthly (in the same year) 1 Dec. 1874, Beatrice- Joanna, yst da. of Sir Norton Joseph Knatch- bull, 10th Bart., by Mary, da. of Jesse Watts-Russell, of Ham Hall, co. Stafford. [I.], 1828 ; took the name of EyertonQ>) in lieu of Lcveson-Qower by royal he. 24 Aug. 1833, and, having (by the death of his father 19 July previous) inherited the large portion (then estimated at £90,000 a year) of the estates^) of the family of Egerton (Dukes and Earls of Bridgewater, Marquesses and Viscounts of Brackley and BaronB of Ellesmere) devised to his father in 1803 under the will of Francis, 3d and last Duke of Bridgewater, was (on the retirement of (■) This lady mi. (secondly), 10 Nov. 1832, Charles-Theodore-Herbert, Baron de Venningen, of Bavaria. She m. (thirdly), C'hcikh Medjuel el Mazrab, a Gen. in the Greek army. She m. (fourthly and finally) about Sep. 1881, one " Midjouel." She d. in Damascus 11 Aug. 1881, aged 74. Her will, dat. 15 June 1*71, pr. 13 April 1882. ( b ) This name of Egerton was born by him a prefix to his title of honour, his sig- nature being " Egerton Ellesmere." So also the 5 th Earl of Jersey signed himself " CiiUd Jersey ;" the 5th Earl Cornwallis, " Mann Cornwallis," &c. ( c ) This portion comprised Worsley, co. Lancaster, Brackley, co. Northampton, &c.
