Kent (which his brother had given up to him), where he entertained the King and Queen, 3 to 5 Nov. 1779. He was Lieut. Col. of the West Kent Militia when it was first embodied in 1759. He m. firstly, 25 April 1741, Martha, da. and coheir of Anthony Collins, of Badow, Essex, niece of Sir Thomas Child. She was bur. 17. Sep. 1713, at Brnoinfield, co. Kent.. He m. secondly, July 174 I. Dorothy, da. of Mawditsly Best, of Boxley, co. Kent, by Elizabeth, da. of ( — ) Fearne. She d. 21 and was bur. 23 May 1750, at Broomfield afsd. Henry Fairfax, of Toulston, co. York (who d. 1708, aged 19), next br. to the 5th and son of the 1th Lord. He was 6. 1737 ; was sometime an officer in the army, but took holy orders in 17S9, residing at Mount Eagle in Virginia. He was chief mourner at the funeral of his well known relative, Gen. Charles Snwvdem (Fairfax), Lord Fairfax of Cameron [S.], grandson and h., being s. and h. of the Hon. Albert Fairfax, of Vaucluse afsd., by Caroline Eliza, da. of llichard Snowden, of Oakland, in Prince George's, co. Maryland, L T .S.A., which Albert, was 1st s. and lu ap. of the last Lord, by his 3d wife, but d v. p. 9 Bay 183o, aged 33. He was 6. S March 1829, at Vaucluse afsd. ; went to California in 1 Sol, where he became, in 1854, Speaker of the House of Delegates, and, 1S57-62, Clerk of the Supreme Court. He m. 10 Jan. 1855, Ada, 2d da. of Joseph S. Benham, of Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S.A., Major in the Army. He d. s.p., 5 April lSo'9, at Baltimore, aged 40. His widow living 1S90, at San Marin, California.
