James (Ogilvy), Loed Ogilvy of Deskford [S.], s. I. 1638, 1111(1 of Walter, Lord Ogilvy of Deskford [S]. (who was bo cr. i aud' ^ ct ' 1616 )> b y ^ second wife, Mary, da. of William (Douglas), 3d Earl of Morton, [8A sue. his father at some date after 10*1. 20 Ju | y 1623 ( when he waa designated as " Master of Deskford ") and was by pat. dat. at Newmarket, 20 Feb. 1633, cr. EARL OF FINDLATER [S.] with rem. to the heirs male of his body succeeding him in the patrimony and estate of Findlater and Deskford. Having, however, no male issue he resigned his honours aud obtained a new grant of the same 18 Oct. 1641, with rem. to his son in law Sir Patrick Ogilvy, of Inchmartin, and the "heirs male" of the said Patrick. He was made P.O. in 1641 by Pari, for his life and sat in several committees of Pari., 1641-47- He in. firstly Elizabeth, widow of David Wemyss, da. of Andrew (Leslik), Earl ok Rothes [8.1 by his first wife, Grizel, da. of Sir James Hamilton. He m. secondly Marion, da. of William (Conyngham), 8th Earl of Glencairn [S ], by Jauet, da. of Mark (Kerr), Earl of Lothian [S.] He d. s.p.m. about 1653, and was probably bur, at Cullen, co. Banff. His widow m. (as the 2d of his three wives) Alexauder Fbaseu, Master of Saltoun (who d. v.p. Nov. 1682) and d. s.p. 1661. II. 1653 ? 2. Patbick (Ogilvy), Eabl of Findlater, &e. |S.], son in law of the above (having m. Elizabeth his 1st da. and coheir by his first wife) and heir to the Earldom according to the spec. rem. in the regrant of 1641. He was s. and h. of Sir Patrick Ooilvy, of Inchmartin, co. Perth, by Anne, da. of Sir Duncan Campbell, of Glenurchy, and sue. his father in those lands and in the lauds of Erroll, &c, 13 March 1651, being served heir to him, 5 Oct. 1652, under the designation of LordDeskkord. He sue. his father in lawin the Earldom shortly after- wards and was fined (as an Earl) £1,500 by Cromwell's " act of grace," 12 April 1654. He d. 30 March 1658, and was probably bur. at Cullen. III. 1658. 3. James (Ogilvy), Eabl of Findlateb, &c. [8.1 styled from 1653 ? to 1658 Lord Deskford, s. and h. ; served heir to his father, 15 April 1662. He supported the Union [S.], in the Pari, of 1706. He m. firstly, Anue, widow of Robert Seton (who d. 1655), da. of Hugh (Montgomery), 7th Earl of Eguntoun [S], by his first wife, Anne, da. of James (Hamilton), 2d Marquess of Hamilton. He m. secondly, Mary, widow of Sir James Livingston, relict, formery, of Alexander (Livingston), Earl of Calendar [S.] (who d. 1685), 3d da. of William (Hamilton), 2d Duke of Hamilton [S.], by Elizabeth, da. of James (Maxwsll), Earl of Dwleton [S.] The Earl d. 1711, and was probably bur. at Cullen. [Walter Ogilvy, styled Lord Deskfoed, s. and h. ap. by first wife, b. about 1660. He d. unm. and v.p. before June 1698.] IV. 1711. 4. James (Ogilvy), Earl of Findlater, &c. [&], 2d but 1st surv. s. and h. by first wife ; b. 11 July 1663, styled Lord Deskford, after the death of his elder br. till 24 June 1698, when he was cr. by pat. dat. at Kensington VISCOUNT OF SEAFIELD and LOUD OGILVY OF CULLEN [S.j with an extended rem. failing the heirs male of his body. He had, previously been admitted an Advocate, 16 Jan. 1685 ; was Solicitor Gen. [S.], 1693 ; M.P. for Cullen, 1689 to 1695, when he was appointed Sec. of State[S.], in which capacity he voted in Pari, till raised to the Peerage [S.] in 1698, as afsd. President of the Pari. [S.], July 1698; High Commissioner to the gen. assembly of the Church [S.], 1700, &c, being by pat. dat. at Kensington, 24 June 1701, cr. EARL OF SEAFIELD, VISCOUNT OF REIDHAVEN and LORD OGILVY OF DESKFORD AND CULLEN [8.], with
