He m. Agnes, da. of William (de Valence), Eaiil of Pembroke, by Joan, da. and h. of Warine de Monchensy. He d. s.p. certainly before 1208 if not ten years or more earlier. His widow m. (secondly) Hugh de Baliol and thirdly John de Ayennes, but d. B.p. VII. 12901 7. John Fitz-Thomas Fitz-Gerald, Lord of Offaly, heir male, being only s. and h. of Thomas Fitz-Maubice, of Geashill, by his first wife, Rohesia, da. and h. of Richard de St. Michael, Lord of Rheban, Athy, and Woodstock, which Thomas was yr. br- of Maurice (4th) Lord of Offaly and 3d s. of Maurice (3d) Lord of Offaly both before named. He was b. about 1250 ; sue. to the estates of Offaly, &c, in 1287 as above stated and sat in the Pari. [I.], 1295. He was 14 May 1316, cr. EARL OF KILDARE [I.] See that title. She was yst. sister and coheir of John Vesey, of Oranmore, co. Galway (who d. 1779), being 2d da. of the Rev. Henry Vesey, Warden of GaHvay, by Mary, da. and coheir of George Gerry, Alderman of Galway. She was 6. about 1759 ; m. in 1782 ; was raised to the Peerage as above stated, in 1826, for her husband's services and d. 3 Jan. 1832, aged 73. Her husband who was s. of William Fitz-Gerald, of Inchicronan, co. Clare, by Eliza, da. and coheir of Pierce Lynch, of Grange, was b. about 1743 ; was M.P. for Fore, ( a ) Juliana, his only 6urv. sister, m. in 1276 Thomas de Clare (s. of Richard, Earl of Gloucester), by whom she had two daughters and coheirs, viz. (1) Margaret who m. Bartholomew, Lord Badlesmere, and (2) Maud m. Robert, Lord de Clifford. Both these ladies left issue, among which the representation (as heir general) of the earlier Lords of Offaly remains. (>>) See " Earh of Kildare," (p . 19), as in note " a " on p. 358. The noble author is evidently doubtful as to whether this Maurico survived his cousin the Lord of Offaly above named. (°) It Beems difficult to arrive at the correct spelling of the last word of this title, but it is said to be written as " Vcscy " in the patent. The name of "Vesey," was that which was authorised as a surname by the sigu manual of 1815, to the lady's husband. In the Lord's Journals, 16 May 1834, the claim to vote is allowed of " William Fcsey-Fitz-Gerald, Baron Fitz-Gerald and Vesci " ; but when he takes his seat as a Peer [U.K.], in Feb. 1835, the surname and the Irish peerage title are both spelt " Vesei," but, finally, when on 5 July 1815, the claim to vote is allowed of his brother and heir, the claimant is called " Henry Vesey Fitz Gerald, " Baron Fitz Gerald and Vesey." and the Irish patent of 1S26, is recited as " Fitz Gerald and Fesey. ( J ) The three extinctions made use of for this creation, according to the act of Union [I.], were (1) Glenbervie, ex. 1823 ; (2) Milford, ex. 1823 and (3) Coleraine, ex. (V Seo p. 190, note "b" (circa finem) sub "Dufl'erin," for an instance of the length of some of these 19th century peerage titles.
