Amarell, 1st da. and coheir of Jemima, SUO jure, I 1810 Marchioness Grey [1740] and Baroness Lucas ok Crudwell, [1663], ~ ' by Philip (Yorke), 2d Earl ok Hardwicke, was b. 22 Jany. 1751 ; m. 16 July 1 772, at St. James', Vv'estm., Alexander Hume-Campbell, styled Viscount Polwartii (who was cr. 20 May 1776, Baron Hume of Berwick, and who d. s.p. and v.p., 9 March 1781, aged 31), sue. her mother, 10 Jauy. 1797, as Baroness Lucas or Crudwell, under the spec. rem. in the creation of that dignity and was, 25 Oct. 1816, cr. There is an interesting article on " surnames with the prefix dc " in the " Her. and Ocn." vol. i, pp. 138-158, from which it appears that " in the revival of the particle dc, it- would seem that the Irish led the way," but that in England "tho same admiration of the prefix de began to be entertained in the latter part of the last century." The following peerages of the 18th or 19th century illustrate this much prized prefix. In 17GG tho Barony Dc Montalt [I.] was created (ex. 1777) ; in 1776 the Viscountcy He Vesci [I.] (the Barony [U.K.] in 1884) ; iu 1784 the Barony Grey de Wilton, (the Viscountcy in 1801) ; in 1785 another Barony Dc Montalt [I ] (the Earldom, [U.K] m 1886); in 1796 the Barony Dc Dunstanville of Tehidy J in 1800 the Barony De Blaquiere of Ardkill [[.] ; in 1815 the Viscountcy Frankfort dc Montmorency [I.] ; in 1820 the Barony De Tabley of Tabley House, (" a tautologous designation that
