(the only son by the first wife) it is said that he "entered into a religious order abroad and died without succession." It is to be noted that a charter of the Lordship and Barony of Forbes 20 Dec. 1598 was granted "to Arthur Forbes, eldest son of John, Lord Forbes, by Jonet Seytouu, his wife," which seems to imply that John was then civilly or actually dead.
