II. 163G. 2. Andrew (Fraser), Lord Eraser [S.], s. and h. He was a Pari. Commissioner against the Malignauts, 1644 ; for estates, 1645, and for defence of the Kingdom, 1049. He m. Viscountess Arbuthnott [S.], relict, formerly, of Sir John Sinclair, of Duubeath, da. of Hugh (Fbahkb), 7th Loud Lovat [S.], by Isabel, da. of Sir John Wemyss. IV. 1680 1 4- Charles (Fraser), Lord Fraser [SJ, s. and h., to served heir, 2 March 1683. He was tried for treason, 29 March 1093, 1720. at Edinburgh and fined £200 for drinking the health of "King James." He took the oaths and his seat in Pari. [SJi 2 July 1695, and was a supporter (1700) of the Union. He engaged in the insurrection of 1715, but, keeping himself concealed till his death, escaped attainder. He m. Margaret, widow of Simon Eraser, of Inverallochy, 1st da. of James (Euskine), (") "It is not surprising that the title of 'Lord Fraser,' so indicative of Chief- taincy over the Erasers, should have given umbrage to the opulent and powerful families of Lovat and Fhilorth [Lords Saltomi]. What Was the particular motive for the creation does not appear ; " but B the only time that any cavil was raked against the King's prerogative " as the Fountain of Honour was subsequent to this creation, some having presumed " so far to slight H.M.'s patent and royal pleasure therein expressed as to give other names and designations than what are contained in the patent," This proceeding, however, called forth an act of Pari., 24 June 1002, which " declares that the Lord Fraser is, according to his patent, to have and enjoye the tytle of Lord Fraser and discharges all H.M.'s subjects that none of them presume in discourses, writings ur otherways to give him any other title or designations as they will be answerable at their heist perrell."
