Barony by Edmund Deincourt of Thurgarton, Notts, Iilankney,( a ) Writ. co - Lincoln, &c, s. and h. of John D. of the same, stic. his father before 1257 ; served in the wars in France and Scotland; was, with about I. 1290, 60 others, sum. 8 June 1294, to attend the King wheresoever he to should be,( b ) and was sum. to Pari, as a Baron (LOUD DEIN- 1327. COURT), by writs, 6 Feb. (1298/9), 27 Ed. I, to 3 Dec. (1326), 20 Ed. II. He was one of the Barons who signed the letter to the Pope, 12 Feb. 1300/1, as "Edm'usde Eyncourl, D'n'tde Thurgeriton." ( c ) Being anxious to perpetuate his name and arms, which were likely to perish in the person of Isabel, da. of Edmund Deyncourt, late his " heir apparent " (and, consequently cither a sou or grandson), he obtained the royal lie. 23 Feb. (1313/4), 7 Ed. II, to settle his estates after his death on William and John Deyncourt (both sons of John Deyncourt) in tail male respectively with rem. to his own right heirs.( d ) He d. (1327), 1 Ed. Ill, when, if the said Isabel was then living/ 6 ) she would have been (according to the present theory) the heir to any Barony in fee a: by the writ of 1299. II. 1332. 1. William Deincourt of Blankney, afsd., on whom the preceding I,ord had settled his lands as above named, sue. him therein in 1327, being then aged 26.(f) He was s. of John I>eincourt. He was sum. to Pari, as a Baron (LORD DEINCOURT) by writs 27 Jany. (1331/2) 6 Ed. III. He distinguished himself in the French and Scotch wars, and was in command at the battle of Neville's Cross, 17 Oct. 1316, and was present at the surrender of Calais. He m. Millicent, said to have been daughter of William (db Kos), Loud Ros. He d. 2 June (1361) 33 Ed HI. His widow d. (1379-80) 3 Kic. II. III. 1364. 2. "William (Deincourt), Lord Deincourt, grandson and h., being s. and h. of William Deincourt, by Margaret, da. of Adam de Welle, which William was s. and h. ap. of the last Lord, but d. v.p. He was aged 7 years in 1364. He was sum. to Pari, by writs 26 Aug. (13S0) 1 Ric. II to 22 Aug. (1381) 5 Ric. II. (e) He m. Alice, sister of Ralph, 1st Earl of Westmorland, da. of John (Nevtll) LonD Nevili., by lus 1st wife Maud, da. of Henry (Perct), Lord Percy. He d. 14 Oct. 1381. His widow d. June 1433. Her Will dat 5 May 1433, pr. at Lincoln. IV. 1381. 5. Ralph (Deincourt), Lord Deincourt, s. and h. He d. in infancy, being in ward to Lord Nevill 7 Nov. 13S4. (») He is said to have been the descendant and heir male of Walter "Domesday- Baron" of Blanckney. ( d ) See " Ryley's Plac. Pari." p. 547. It is to be observed that no relationship of any of the parties to the grantee i3 mentioned therein. ( e ) In Burke's extinct Peerage, she is stated to have been then dead without issue, while Nicolas, followed by Courthope, says that the Barony " is probably now in abeyance among her descendants and representatives." 0 His relationship to the said Lord is not clear (see note " d.") According to Burke, as also to Banks {liar. Angl. Cone. vol. i, p. 184) he was his grandson and h. mafe being 2d son of the Baron's eldest son (by them called John) who d. v.p. and next br. to Edmund, father of Isabel, the heiress apparent in 1313. According to Nicolas and Courthope he was " son of John Deincourt, who is presumed to have been brother of the last Boron," and it is to be observed that Dugdale, who seldom is so specific in such matters, gays that the first Lord " had issue one only eon called Edmund, and he one only daughter, Isabel."
