He was one of the 15 Irish Peers sum. iu 1489, by Henry VIL to Kngland.( a ) In 1496, he was Commander-in-Chief of the forces for the defence of Ireland, and distinguished himself at the battle of Knoctlough in Connaugbt in 1504. Lord Deputy 1527-28, but was taken prisoner by O'Connor. He m, Isabella, da. of Thomas Fitz Ukhald (2<1 s. of Gerald, Earl ok Kildark. [I.]), tho' according to " Lodge," he m. Elizabeth, da. of . . . (Sr. Laurence) Lord Howth [I.] He rf. 28 Feb. 1537, at a great age and was bur. in the church of Castletou Delvin. Inq. at Trim, 2 April 1538. V. 1537. 5. Richard (Nugent), Baron Delvin [I.], grandson and h., being s. and h. of Christopher Nugent, by Marian, yst. da. of Nicholas (St. Laurence), Lord Howtu [I.], which Christopher was 1st s. and h. ap. of the last Lord, but d. v.p. He waa aged 14 in 1537, but, in 1545, had livery of his lands. He distinguished himself in his wars against the rebel Irish, particularly, in 1557, against McDonnell. He m. Elizabeth, widow of Thomas Nanule, styled "Baron of Navan," 1st da. of Jenico (Preston), 3d Viscount Gormanston [I.] by his first wife, Catharine, da. of Gerald (Fitz-Gkrald), Earl ok Kildark. [I]. He d. 23 Nov. 1559, having, iu his will, directed that he should be bur. with his grandfather. VI. 1559. G. Ciiristofher (Nugent), Baron Delvin [I.], s. ami h., 15 years old iu 1559. Knighted in 1665. In 1567, he obtained a royal commission to extirpate the tribe of O'More but, his integrity being suspected, was committed a prisoner to the. Tower of London in 1580. He was released and was at the Pari, of 1585. In 1593, he was made Leader of the forces, and on 4 May 1597, received a crown rent of £100 a year. He m. in 1584, Mary, da. of Gerald (Fitz Gerald), 11th Eaul ok Kildark [I.J, by Mabel, sister to Anthony, 1st Viscount Montagu, da. of Sir Anthony Browne. He d. a prisoner at Dublin Castle, 1 Oct. 1602, and was hur. 5 at Castleton Delvin. His widow, who was 4. 13 Sep. 1556, (/. 1 Oct. 1610 and was 4 nr. with him. VII. 1602. 7.
