DACRE BE GILLESLAND, or DACRE OF GILLESLAND, sometime (1509) DACRE DE DACRE, subsequently (1529) DACRE DE DACRE AND GREYSTOCK, and afterwards "DE GREYSTOCK," or " DE NORTH," generally known as Dacre of the North. Barony Ralph Dacre, 2d s. and h. male of Thomas (Dacre), I. 1459. Lord Dacre, by Philippa, da. of Ralph (Nevill), Earl of Westmor- land, was by writ directed " Ramdplio Dacre lie Gillesland, Ckl'r. sum. , , n to Pari, as a Baron (LORD DACRE DE GILLESLAND), 9 Oct. 1 01 ' (1459), 38 Hen. VI,(") the same date as that whereon Sir Richard Fieuues, husband of the heir general, was also so sum. as Lord Dacre. He d. unm. being slain at the battle of Towton, 29 March 1461, and was bur. at Sarton, when his honours became cxtinrt. By act of Pari. 4 Nov. following he was attained. II. 1473, J. HuMPniiEY Dacre, 3d s. and h. male of Thomas or (Dacre), Lord Dacre, by Philippa, da. of Ralph (Nevtll), Earl of 1482. Westmorland, was next br. to Ralph, Lord Dacre de Gillesland above- named, with whom he was attainted 4 Nov. 1461. This attainder was reversed, 8 Feb. 1473,( h ) it being therein recited that the said Humphrey had been " admitted " to the King's " Grace at his palace of Wcstmr., in the 2d year of his reign." He appears, indeed in that year to have attended the King's army on the expedition to the north against the Lancastrians, and to have attended the Duchess of Flanders, in 1465. This reversal of the attainder appears to have made him, (under an entailing deed made by his Father), heir to most of the estates, tho' the posses- sion thereof was disputed by the heir general. Both parties having agreed in a bond of 10,000 marks, to abide by the King's arbitrament, the award made under the Privy Seal, 8 April 1 473, allotted Gillesland and nearly all the estates to this Humprey, as heir male, while as to the Peerage (the title ami precedency of Thomas, the late Lord Dacre, being allowed to the heir general), it was enacted " that the said ( a ) There is a proof in the Rolls of Pari, of this sitting.
