He m., 4 July 1S49, at St. Paul's, Knightsbridge, Diana, da. of George (Boyle), 4th Earl op Glasgow [S]., by his second wife, Julia, da. of the Rt. Hon. Sir John Sinclair, Bart. She, who was b. 1 July 1828, d. s.p. 1 Jan. 1877. Family Estates.— These, in 1883, consisted of 4,S67 acres in Worcestershire, 383 in Norfolk, and 250 in Pembrokeshire. Total 5,500 acres, worth £8,837 a year. Principal Residence. Westwood Park, near Droitwich, co. Worcester. HAMPTON COUKT. i.e., "Hampton Court, co. John de Handlo was sum. by writ 25 Feb. (1341/2), 16 Ed. III., to a Council which was not a regular Pari, and consequently such writ cannot be held to have originated any hereditary Barony. Sir John Hanmer, Bart., s. and h. of Thomas Hanmer I 1872 ( wno ^ - V, P- s Nov. 1818, aged 37), by Arabella Charlotte, 1st da. and to J ' coheir of Thomas Skip Dyott Bocknall, was b. 22 Dec. 1809, and -. o u -i bap. 26 at Hanmer ; ed. at Eton and at Ch. Ch.. Oxford ; mat., ISM. 3 Ucc 1827 . |uc g ran afather, as 3d Baronet, 4 Oct. 1S28 ; was M.P. for Shrewsbury, 1832-37 ; for Hull, 1841-47, and for Flint Burghs (in six Paris.) 1847-72, and was cr., 1 Oct. 1872, BARON HANMER OF HANMER AND FLINT, b >tfa co. Flint. He m., 3 Sep. 1833, at Grendon, co. Warwick, Georgiana, 3d da. of Sir George Chetwyno, 2d Bart., of Grendon Hall, by Hannah Maria, da. of John Sparrow. She d. 21 March 1830, in her 67th year, at Bettisfield Park, co. Flint. He d. s.p., 8 March 1831, aged 71, at Knotley Park, Kent, when the Barony became extinct but the Baronetcy (or, 1774) devolved on his br. and heir. Family Estates.— These, in 1878, consisted of 7,318 acres in Flintshire, &c, valued at £10,973 a year. Residence. Bettisfield Park (near Whitchurch) Flintshire. HANNEN OF BURDOCK. Barony for life. " The Rt. Hon. Sir James Hannen, President of the t i oq-i Probate, Divorce, and Admiralty Division of the High Court of Justice" was on 28 Jan. 1891, appointed a Lord of Appeal in Ordinary (under "the Appellate Jurisdiction Act, 1876"), and granted " the dignity of a Baron for life by the style and title of BARON HANNEN OF BURDOCK, co. Sussex," and( a ) was introduced into the House of Lords the next ( B ) See vol.i, p. 357, note "a," sub " Blackburn " (the firstappointmeutsomade) as to the nature and extent of the creations under this Act, by which at its first institution in 1 S76 three (only) were authorised. These were (1) Blackburn (2) Gordon and (3) Watson. In 1882 ( 4) Fitz Gerald was appointed vice Gordon deceased ; in 1887 (5) Macnaghton net Blackburn resigned and in 1889 (6) Morris vice Fitz Gerald deceased. In Dee. 1890 the death of Sir Barnes Peacock, one of the (paid) members of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, enabled (under the act of 1876) the creation of a fourth " Lord OF Appeal," and accordingly in Jan. 1891 (7) Sir John Hannen was added to the three Lords (Watson, Macnaghten, and Morris) which then held that office.
