Family Estates. — These, in 1883, consisted of 4,569 acres in Derbyshire (worth £12,576 a year), S,13S in Cheshire, 196 in Durham, 38 in Northamptonshire, and three in Leicestershire. Total 12,94-1 acres, worth £24,528 a year. Principal Residences. Elvastou Castle, Derbyshire, and Gawsworth Hall, near Macclesfield, Cheshire. HARRIS OF SERINGAPATAM AND MYSORE AND OF BELMONT. Barony. 1. George Harris, s. of the Rev. George Harris, B.A., I 18 J 5 Curate of Blasted, Kent, by Sarah, da. of George Twenty.man, of Baintree, Co. Cumberland, was b. in London 18 March 1746 ; cd. at Westm. school and at Woolwich Military Academy ; entered the Service, 1760, becoming eventually, 1812, full General. He served in America from 1774 to 1778, being twice severely wounded in action ; served in India, 1790-91, under Gen. Medows, and was made Commaudant of Fort William in 1791 and Com. in Chief of the Madras Presidency from 1796 to 1800. In Dec. 1798 he took the field against Tippoo Sahib, w ho was slain at the capture of Seringapatam, 4 May 1799. when the Mysore country was annexed and the war ended. For this he was thanked by Pari, and was in 1S00 made Col. of the 73d Highlanders but it was not till 16 years afterwards that he was o, 11 Aug. 1815, BARON HARRIS OF SERINGAPA- TAM ( !l ) AND MYSORE in the East Indies AND OF BELMONT, co. WlLLUM George (Harris), Baron Harris op Seringafatam, &c, 1st s. and h., b. 19 Jan. 1782, at Limerick; joined the Army, 179o, and was (with his father) at the stunning of Seringapatam in 1799. He was wounded at Waterloo in 1815, becoming finally, 1837, Lieut. Gen. in the Army. He sue. to the peerage, 19 May 1829 ; C.B. ; 1C.C.H., 1S:',2. and a Knight of Wilhelm the Lion of the Netherlands ; Col. of the 86th Foot, 1832, and of the 73d Foot, 1835-45. He m. firstly, 17 Oct. 1809, at St. Geo. Han. sq., Eliza Selina Ann, da. of William Dick, M.D., of Tullymet House, co. Perth. She d. 25 Jan. 1817. He m. secondly, 28 May 1824, Isabella Helena, only da. anil h. of Robert Handcock- Temfle, of Waterston, co. Westmeath, by Louisa, da. of William Stearne Tiohe, of South Hill, in that county. He d. 30 May 1S45, aged 63, at Belmont afsd. Will pr. June 1845. His widow d. Jan. 1861. III. 1845. 3. George Francis Robert (Harris), Baron Harris OF Serinoafatam, &c, s. and h., by first wife, b. 14 Aug. 1810, at Belmont afsd., and bap. at Throwley, Kent ; ed. at Eton ; mat. at Oxford (Merton Coll ), 2 Feb. 1829 ; 4th class classics, 1831 and B.A. (Ch. She d. 6 March 1853, aged 21, at Worthing, in Barbadoes. He d. 23 Nov. 1872, aged 62, at Belmont afsd.
