Family Estates. — These, in 1883, consisted of 3,002 acres in Dorset and 1,764 in Northamptonshire. Tutal 5,36(3 acres, worth £8,516 a year. Principal Residence. Essex (a Freeman of the city of Rochester), by Hannah, da. of John SWAHSOH, also of London, was 6. 15 June 1724; sue. his father 6 April 1719 ; was M.P. for Sudbury, 1761-68, and for Dover, 1774-84, and, having m. 21 Feb. 1747, at St. Paul's Cathedral, London, Anne, 1st da. and coheir (whose issue became sole heir) of Sir John M.uuH, Bart., of Worliugworth Hall afsd., by Elizabeth, da. of Daniel Dale, of Bridlington, co. York (which Sir John had been cr. a Baronet, 1 5 July 1 765, with a spec, rem., failing heir male of his boily, to his son in law the said John nenniker) sue. his wife's father, 16 Feb. 1781, in the said Baronetcy. By royal lie, 10 Aug. 1792, he took the name of Major after that of Ilenniker in compliance" with the will of his maternal grandfather. ( b j The Earldom of Noithington [a tithing in the parish of Mitcheldever], co. Southampton, was conferred in 1764 on his great grandfather (whom he represented) and became extinct in 1786. The title of " Northington of Watford " is on the principle of " Leicester of Holkham " (see remarks under that creation) " Truro of Bowes," " Tenterden of Hendun," &c. (°) The patents for no less than sixteen Baronies [I.J were thited 31 July 1800, being accompanied at the same date by Royal letters of precedence in the following order, viz. (1) Castlecoote; (2) Langford; (3) Do Blaquiere ; (41 Frankfort uf Galmoy ; (5) Dufferin and Olaneboye ; (6) Ilenniker; (7) Xewcomen ; (8) Adare ; (9) Ventry ; (.0) Ennismore; (11) Wallscourt ; (121 Mount Sandford ; (13) Duualley ; (14)Tara; (15) Hartland, and (16) Clanmorris. It is to be observed that the patent of Ilenniker, as alto that of Ventry, is not enrolled in Chancery [I.], but in the case of Yentry, the patent itself was produced in the house. These sixteen persons, thus ennobled, form part of 26 raiseil to the Irish Peerage in one year, viz. (1S00) the year immediately before the Irish Union. See vol. i, p. 166, note "a," sub "Ashtown."
