He m., 14 Feb. 1849, Harriet, da. of Edward Clifton, of Clifton and Lytharn, co. Lancaster, by Elizabeth, da. of Thomas Scarisbrick-Eccleston. He d. 15 March 1SS7 aged 78, at 16 South street, Bark lane, Midx., and was bur. at St. Oswalds', Ashton in Makerfield, co. Lane. Will pr. at £197,000. His widow d. 20 July 1888, at Twyford Abbey, Midi. Will pr. at £29,021. IT. 1887. 2. William Cansfield (Gerard), Baron Gerard of Bryn, s. and h., b. 21 June 1851 ; Lieut. 2d Life Guards, 1870-76. He sue. to the Peerage 15 March 1887 ; m. 7 Aug. 1877, at Westminster Abbey, Mary Enuneline Laura, 1st da. of Henry Beilby William Milner, of West Retford House, Notts, by Charlotte Henrietta, da. of the Most Rev. Marcus Bereskord, Archbishop of Armagh. She was b. 5 Nov. 1854. Family Estates. — These, in 1S83, consisted of 6,192 acres in Lancashire and 915 in Lincolnshire. They were conferred on 4 members of the upper House (one being an Irish Rep. Peer) nndou4commoners,and wereas follows (1), the Dukedom of Oordon and Earldom of Kinrara, on the Duke of Richmond ; (2) the Marqumale of Abergavenny and Earldom, of Leues on the Earl of Abergavenny ; (3) the Earldom of Wharncliffe and Viscountcy of Carlton, on Baron Wharncliffe of Wortley ; (4) the Barony of Fermanagh of Lisnashea on Earl Erne of Crom Castle [I], a rep. Peer ; (5) the Barony of Sarlcch on Mr. Ormsby-Gore ; (6) the Barony of Alinyton of Crichel on Mr. Sturt ; (7) tht Barony of Tollcmache of Hclmingliam Hall on Mr. Tollemache ; and (8) the Barony o/Oei-ard of Bryn on Sir Robert Tolver Gerard, Bart. Why this gentleman, the third Baronet of the realm, was placed last of the batch is hard to tell ; his previous rank was very much above the three immediately above him, and liis truly illustrious pedigree vastly excelled that of Gore, Sturt, and (Tollemache) Halliday. c 2
