He m. before 22 July 1535, Mariota, 2d da. and coheir of Patrick (Halybubton), 6th LOW) Diuletoux or Halyhukton ok DikletoUN [S.], by his first wife, Margaret, da. of James Dooglas, of Audeston. He d. at Edinburgh Sep. 1517. His widow living 18 May 1562. "V- 1547. J, Alexander (Home), Lord Home [S-]) s - an ^ h.., was a prisoner when he sue. to the peerage [S-] in Sep. 1547 but was released on his mother surrendering Home Castle to the English 22 Sep. 1517, from whom it was re-captured next year. He exercised great influence Ctho' on various sides), supporting the Reformation in 1560 ; the party of the Queeu (to whom in 1561 he was F.C.) in 1565 ; that of the King in 1567 on whose side ho fought and was wounded at Langside, but (again) supporting the side of the Queen in 1569 to 1573 was taken when the Castle of Edinburgh surrendered in which he d. two years later. He nt. firstly, Margaret, da. of Sir Walter Ker, of Cessford, and Isabel, his wife. She d. s.p.m., before 5 Dee. 1565. He m. secondly, Agnes, widow of Sir Robert Logan, da. of Patrick (Gray), Lord Gray 03.1 bv Marion, da. of James (Ooilvy), Lord Ogilvy of Aihlif. [8]. He adhered, however, to the old religion, and had to " make repentance " in the New Kirk, 17 May 1594. In 1599 be went abroad, presumably on an embassy to Rome ; in 1603 he accompanied the King to England, who made him Justiciary over the three Marches and P.O. He m. firstly, before 29 November, 15S6, Christian, widow of Laurence Olithant, Master of Oliphant (who d. March, 15S4) 2d da. of William (Douo.las), Earl of Morton [8.J by Agues, da. of George (Leslie), Earl of Rothes [SJ By her he had no issue. He m. secondly, before 28 June 1607, Mary, 1st da. of Edward (Sutton, /'lias Dudley), 9th Loud Dudley, by Theodosia, da of Sir James Harington. He d. in London 5 April, and was bur. May 1619, at Dunglass, aged 52. Fun. entry in Lyon office. His widow, who was 6. 2 Oct. 1586, d. 24 May 1645, at St. Botolph's, Aldersgate, London. Admou. 16 April 1649 ( c ), revoked and will, dat. at Edinburgh 2 Feb. 1638 to 9 Sep. 1644, (directing her burial to be with her husbaud), pr. 9 April 1658, by Lady Mary Stewart, alius Lome, grandchild and executrix. Earldom [S.] 2 and 7. James (Home), Earl op Home, &c. [S.], II. / only s. and h., b. about 1607 ; styled Loud Dunglass till Barony [S.] > 1 61 9 he sue. to the pccrui/e [S.] April 1619. He m. firstly, Anne, VII. I da. of Henry (Caiiyk), 1st Viscodnt Falkland [S.], by J ELIZABETH, da. and h. of Sir Laurence Tanfield. She. who was aged 3 in 1622, d. s.p. He m. secondly, Grace (said to have been b. in 1603), ( a ) He appears to have been convicted of treason, but apparently, no forfeiture seems to have followed. ( b ) He is described in the " Estimate of the Nobility " [S.] 1583 as " a young man of 17 years of age, of a great living, and many friends, although they all follow him not; Himself of no very good government or hope."
