[I.], both to George I. and George II, 1727-30; Attorney Gen. [I.], 1730-39 ; Lord High Chancellor [I.], 1739-56, during which period he whs 12 times a Lord Justice [1.1 in the absence of the Viceroy. He was cr., 29 Nov. 17-13, BARON NEWPORT, of Newport, co. Tipperary [I.] taking his seat the next day and was subsequently cr. 6 Dec. 1766, VISCOUNT JOCELYN fl.], talking his seat 13 Feb. 1755. He m. firstly, about 1730, Charlotte, da. and coheir of Charles Andkrso.v, of Worcester. She d. 23 and was bur, 2S F<!>. 1747, as "Lady Newport," at Douny- brook, co. Dublin. He m. secondly, 15 Nov. 1751. Frances, widow of Richard (Pausons), 1st Eahl of Rossi; [L], da. of Thomas Ci.axton, of Dublin. He <L in London, 3 and was 6«r. 9 Dec. 1756, aged 6S, at Sawbridgeworth. Will pr. 1756. His widow d. 2-5 May 1772. II. 1756. 2. Robert (Joceltk), Yiscount Jocelyn, and Baron Nkwpoht [I ], only s. and h., by first wife ; bap. 31 July 1731 ; M P. [I.] for Old Leighlin, 1745-56; Auditor Gen. [1.1,1750. He sue. to the pccrai/c [I], 9 Dec. 1756, and was cr., 1 Dec. 1771, EARL OF RODEN of High Boding, co.
