See fuller particulars of him under "Mowuray" with which dignity the Barony of Segraee has ever since continued united, its possessor* holding therewith, after 11107, the Dukedom of Norfolk till 14SI, when these Baronies fell into abeyance between the families of Berkeley and Howard, tho' shortly afterwards they were, apparently, terminated in favour of the tter family. ( il ) By this means, they were again held with the Dukedom of Norfolk till 1777, when they again fell into abeyance, such abeyance being again terminated in 1S78,, 1 ') in favour of the family of Stourton, the senior coheir of the Howard possessors of these Baronies. U a Baron (LOKD SEGRAVE) by writs directed " Nicholas de Segratt, Juniori," from 24 June (1295), 23 lid. 1., to 20 Jan. (1296/7), 25 K.I. I. , and, without the word " Jtutierit" from that date to 25 May (1321), 14 Ed. II., His name as " Nidi's de Segraee, O'nus de Stove," is affixed to the well-known tetter of the Barons to the Pope in 1301. ( e ) He was in the Scotch wars and at the victory of Falkirk. Being accused of high treason in 1305 by Sir John Cromwell, lie Crossed the sea without leave, in order to light him in a duel (which bad been interdicted in England) aud was for that offence actually condemned to death the' pardoned aud restored shortly afterwards. He was present at the coronation of Ed. II. 23 Feb. 13U7/8, being then made Marsual oi' England. He d. s.p.m. 1322 Each., 15 Ed. II. II. 1322, 2.
