Pipe in 1330 by gift from hiB mother (who hud inherited it, in 1334, from Jumes de Pirn, her h. by her 2d husband) and that of Cliftou Carnville by his first wife, Isabella, da. of Sir Richard Vernon, of Haddon, cn. Derby, by Matilda, 1st ;la. anil coheir of William (UK Ca.mvili.e), Lord CAMViLLE.( b ) He, who was in the wars with France (1356-66) and who, in 1:36!, was Seneschal of Qascony, was sum. to Parl.(c) as a Baron (LOW) STAFFORD) by writs from 8 Jan. (1370/11, 44 Ed. III., to 20 Oct. (1379), 3 Rift II., being, in 1371, styled " Richardus de Stafford, |e Piere." He m. firstly, before 1339, Isabel Vernon, as afs.l., who was living 1381. He m. secondly before 1357 Matilda. He d. 13 Aug. 13S0, leaving male issue, but neither they nor any of their descendants were ever sum. to Pari, nor has any claim to this dignity been ever advanced. Edmund Stafford, 2J but 1st surv. s. ami h.( d ) by first wife, 6. about 1344, being aged 36 and upwards at his father's death in Aug. 13S0, when (according to the now doctrine) he would have sue. to the peerage, as Lord Stafford, but being in Holy Orders (Preb. of Lichfield [1369] and of Lincoln) no writ, as such, was issued to him. tho' he inherited the whole of his father's lands. He was Dean of York, 1385-9*, and Bishop os Exeter, 1395—1419 ; L. Privy Seal, 1391 ; L. Keeper of the Great Seal, 1396-99, and 1401-03. This great Statesman and Churchman <l. num. 3 Sep. 1419, aged 75, and was bur. in the cathedral at Exeter, under a superb altar tomb. IIL(ter) 1J/19. 3. Titomas Stafford, of Bngington, co. Warwick " Esq.," nephew and h., sue. his uncle the Bishop in all his lands (obtaining full seizin thereof, 19 Nov. 1119), and would (according to the now doctrine) have then sue. to the peerage also as Lord Stafford. He was surv. s. and h. of Sir Thomas Stafford, of Seite, co. Leicester, by Alicia, relict of Sir Robert r>K Pipe, of Seile afsd., da. of Mured de Sfi.nev, which Sir Thomas, who was sometime (13t!4) Marshal of Ireland, was 3d and yst. s. of Richard, the 1st Lord. He was b. 1388-89, and was, iu 1414, >LP. for co. Warwick, having m. before Sep. 1107 Isabel, da. and h. of Sir William BaQOT, of Bagington afsd., who tl. 6 Sep. 1407. This Isabel was living 15 Oct. 1 117. He d. 11 Dec. 1425, aged 37. IV.(ter) 1425, 4. Richard Stafford, and li. who (according to to the now doctrine) would have sue. to the peerage on his father's HiB ? death in Dec. 1425 as Lord Stafford, was b. 10 Aug. 1420, and was living 1428, but d. s.p. before 1446 ( c ), when any right to the Barony of Stafford under the writ of 1371 (as also all his estates) devolved on the issue and representatives of his great aunt Katharine, only da. of Richard de Stafford, sum. in that Barony as nftd., wife of Sir John Ardern, of Elford (f) co.
