Gen. William Drumtnotul " (in the baptism at Edinburgh of his son David) ami (ibid. p. 690) as late as 10 Aug. 10S0, as "Hon. General William Drunimond" (in his creation as Viscount), while " Riddrll " (p. 712, note 0) says that it was iu the time of his son, the 2d Viscount, that, "the Barony of Maderty came eventually to merge." It would seem, however, that some such resignation (whether a valid one or otherwise) took place in 1684, iu order "to save expenses. H [Lauder's " Hist.
