Watson appeared iu the " Gencaloyi.it," N.S., vol. xi, p. 132, in which cou- temporary authorities for them are quoted, nr., (1) King Louis himself (who calls him his cousin), and (2) William, Archbishop of Tyre, who speaks of hiui as "Vir inter Majores eximiuB." ( e ) " He styled himself Earl of Boulogne, Warren and Mortaigne, but does nut appear to have used that [i.e., the stifle of Earl] of Surrey. - ' [Court/tope.] ( r ) His effigy iu armour "from his seal" is engraved in " Doyle." In 1153 (six years before his death), he was nearly killed by a fall from his horse " super Berehamdoniam," iu sight of his father.
