Han. sq. ; ed. at Edinburgh Univ.; attache to the Embassy at Madrid, 1S16 ; "precis writer" in the foreign office, 1822 ; Sec. of leg. at r loreucc, 1824 ; at Lisbon and at Rio Janeiro, 1825, in which year he was made Knight of the Portuguese order of the Tower and Sword ; Sec. to Embassy at St. Petersburg, 1S27. He was M.P. for Newry, 1S32-35 and for Evesham, 1S3S-52 ; Comptroller of the Household, June to Sep. 1841 and 1846-47 ; Treasurer of the Household, 1S47-52. He sue. to the peerage 16 July 1S60, under the spec. rem. in its creation, and by royal lie, 11 Feb. 1S61, took the name of Sandys in lieu of that of Bill. He m. 12 April 1S37, Louisa, yst. da. of Joseph Blake, of Gloucester Place. He d. at 2 Chesham street, 10 April 1S63, aged 65. His widow d. there 6 April 1S86, and was bur. in Brompton Cemetery. Family Estates. — These, in 1SS3, consisted of 2,5S5 acres in Worcestershire, worth £6,668 a year. Principal Residence. Ombersley Court, near Droitivieh, co. Worcester. SANDYS DE VYNE. Barony by jp. He was one of the Commissioners to prepare the interview of Henry VI If. with the King of France; el. K.G. 21 April and inst. 16 May 1518 ; was Treasurer of Calais, 1523, and appears to have beeu " advanced to the degree of a Baron of the realm, 27 April 1523 at the King's royal palace of Bridewell.' Ho "new built" the mauor house there [Dugdale, quoting Lcland]. (') Dugdale ; who adds that he bore that title the same year when he accompanied toe Duke of Suffolk into France. Courthope, in his MS. additions to his work, says that the creation was " referred by the House of Lords, 4 May 1660, to the writ of [1529] 21 Hen.
