C") Mold (of which Montalt is a latinized form) is the name of a hill in Flintshire, from which, also, the family of Montalt, Lords of Hawarden Castle (one of wliom is said to have been one of the Barons of Hugh Lupus, Earl of Chester in 1070), derived their name. Montalt, Monhault, and Maude, are all forms of the same name. {') Sir John Blaquiere writes of him in 1775, "He supports pretty steadily, but upon two occasions, last session, opposed, and affected independence, but seeing his seat in the Council and Peerage in danger, returned to Government."
