In another chapter of the same prophet, which foretells the advent of the Lord to comfort Jerusalem, i. e. the church, it is written, “Say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God! Behold Jehovah God will come with strength, and his arms shall rule for him; behold, his reward is with him, and his work before Him. He shall feed his flock like a shepherd : He shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.” 40: 10, 11. Now who is the Shepherd of Israel? Who is the Divine Shepherd that guards the chruch—that feeds the souls of men with the bread of life—that gathers his people in his arms, and leads them to the Fountain of living water? The Psalmist says, “Jehovah is my shepherd; I shall not, therefore, want.—He maketh me lie down in green pastures, He leadeth me besides the still waters.” And Jesus Christ says: I am the good Shepherd; the good Shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.—My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me; and I give unto them eternal life.” John 10: 11, 27.
