Christopher the Arznmian was appointed pon- a. d. 475. tiff by Phiroz the king of Persia, in Ihe room of Geut, and died after Yemaioing in that dignity five years. During his pontificate Bartutnah, bishop of Nisibis, began to spread abroad in Persia the Nestorian heresy. Christopher, on coining to the knowledge of this evil, wrote to all the provinces to beware of admitting it. On Barzumah attempting to disseminate these doc- trines in Armenia, he was expelled from his diocese by Nersfaapuh the Arzrunian.
Johan the Mandakunian, from the village of a. a 48o. Zalnot IB the province of the Arshamunians, a feUow disciple with Geut, was appointed to succeed Christopher at the age of seventy-five. He was an estimable character, and mat^ally improved the church ordinances, particularly that reapecting ordination. He also corrected the book containing the directions for cele- brating the sacrifice of the altar. He composed
