menia. Hereupon Hazaravukht, the general who had recently returned from Georgia, and Shapuh the Mihranian, detailed to him the gallant ex* ploits of Vahan and his companions, which they witnessed with their own eyes, and advised the king to adopt conciliatory measures wiih regard to them» and even went so far as to suggest en«  trusting Vahan with the government of Armenia. Valarsh and his ministers approving this ad- vice, immediately appointed one Nikhor, sur- named Vishnaspdat to the prefecture. This individual owed his appointment to the character he bore, which was admirably suited for the duties of governor of Armenia, at this turbulent period. He was meek, mild, and just, and one who always sought to render every one, depen- dent on him, as happy as circumstances would permit. He departed for Armenia at the head of a large body of select troops ; but received express orders to endeavour by mildness and kindness to bring to obedience the gallant Va- han and the remainder of the Armenian nation.
