CHAP. XXXIIII.

Againe Eliu chargeth Iob with blasphemie, and other crimes, 10. sheweth the equitie of Gods iudgement: 20. and that al things are subiect to Gods power and knowledge.

ELIV therfore pronouncing spake these words also: 2Heare ye wise men my words, and ye learned harken to me: 3For the eare proueth words, and the throate discerneth meates by the tast. 4Let vs choose vs iudgement, and among vs let vs see what is the better. 5Because Iob sayd: I am iust, and God hath [1] subuerted my iudgement. 6For in iudging me there is a lie: mine arrow is violent without anie sinne. 7What man is there as is Iob, that drinketh skorning as it were water? 8That goeth with them that worke iniquitie, and walketh with impious men? 9For he hath sayd: Man shal not please God [2] although he runne with him 10Therfore ye discrete men heare me, far from God be impietie, and iniquitie from the Omnipotent. 11For he wil render a man his worke, & according to the waies of euerie one he wil recompence them. 12For in verie deed God wil not condemne without cause, neither wil the Omnipotent subuert iudgement. 13What other hath he appointed ouer the earth? or whom hath he set ouer the world, which he made? 14If he direct his hart to him, he shal draw his spirit and breath vnto him. 15Al flesh shal faile together, and man shal returne into ashes. 16If then thou haue vnderstanding, heare that is sayd, and harken to the voice of my speach. 17Can he that loueth not iudgement, be healed? and how doest thou so far condemne him, that is iust? 18That sayth to the King, Apostata: that calleth dukes impious: 19Who accepteth not the persons of Princes: nor hath knowen the tyrant, when he contended against the poore man: for al are the worke of his hands. 20They shal sodainly die, and at mid-night peoples shal be troubled, & shal passe, & take away the violent without hand. 21For his eies are vpon the waies of men, and he considereth al their steps. 22There is not darkenesse, & there is not shadow of death, that they may be hid there which worke iniquitie. 23For it is no more in mans power, to come to God into iudgement. 24He shal destroy manie, & innumerable, & shal make other to stand for them. 25For he knoweth their workes: and therfore he shal bring night, and they shal be destroyed. 26As impious men he hath strucken them in the place of them that see. 27Who as it were of purpose haue reuolted from him, & would not vnderstand al his waies: 28That they caused the crie of the needy man to come to him, & he heard the voice of the poore. 29For he gran-

  1. Iob said not that God subuerted iudgment (or wrongfully iudged) but God hath taken away my iudgement, cha. 27. v. 2. that is, differred to iudge my cause.
  2. Neither did Iob say this (c. 9. v. 22.) but Eliu wrested his meaning, that he might haue something to reprehend S. Greg. li. 24. c. 25.
