Kamala consists of the minute glands an.) hairs which cover the cajisules of Mallotus philippinensis, Mue'l. Arg. (=^Rofllerntincloria Ro,b.), a small, evergreen tree, found throughout Tropical India. In most European and American works it is stated th;;t Kamala has long been used in India in the treatment of tapeworm ; but neither literature nor tradition bear this out, and we are led to admit that it was not until well into the nineteenth century that the value of the drug as an anthelmintic was recognised.
