THE Kings Majeftie and Eftaites of Parliament, confiddering the manyfald indignities from tyme to tyme done to his Majeftie, by ane number of undewtifull and unreverent Subjects , wha to the contempt and dilhonour of his Majeftie , make frequent tulyies , and feekes the commodirie to revenge their particular quarrels within the Burgh of Edinburgh and Cannogate , and others places neere to the place of his Heighnes refidence; not fpairingibmetirne at his Majefties awne back, to ufe their privat revenge , to the hazard and perelling of his Heighnes moil Noble Perfon. Lyke as diverfe perfons , under pretence of their awne de- fence , repaires and reforts within his Majefties Palaces , armed with Jacks , Secreets or Corflets , under their doublets or coats. Where-throw it is to be feared , that certaine evill difpofed perfons , under cullour of their awne defence, may attempt fome enterpryfe againft his Majeftie or his domeftiks. UR SOVERAIGNE LORD, and Eftaites of this prefent Parliament , understanding the great prejudice fufteined by the Leiges of this Realme, where the judgment-faits of Schirenes, and others Judges are not fa commodious, neither in building nor in fituation, as theSchirefF, others Judges and their deputes may convenientlie fit , nor the parties may refort thereto. FORSAMEIKLE as in tyme bygane , the onely meane for quyeting of die Borders was entering of pledges, and the keeping of them in Surety that in cafe any enormitic or wrang were committed by any of the gang or furname , for the whiik they were entered pledges ; then Juftice fliould be execute againft the faids pledges with all rigour. And becaufe heretofore, ane great number of the Nobilitie and Barronnes , being burdened tor keeping in furetie fome of the faids pledges , hath made their excufe of the danger and inconve- nient that might occurr to them, in cafe of the efcape of any of the faids pledges, dely vered to them in keeping; whilk being eafie to be prevented be the mair imprifonment of them. OUR SOVERAIGNE LORD, and Eftaites of Parliament, findes that nane of the Nobilitie and Barons, being burdened to r eceave any of the faids
