20. That the Juſtice, Chalmerlane, Crowners, and all uther Officiares ryde in competent and eaſy number.

ITEM, It is ordained, that juſtices, Chalmerlane, Crowneres, and uther Officiares, that makis courſe throw the land, ryde but in competent and eaſy number, to eſchew grievance and hurting of the people, the quhilk number of auld time was ſtatute and modified, and that the Crowneres ceaſe of the tak- ing of the tenne pennies, for the wrang cuſtome of them, that findis them reddy borrowes.

21. Of the away pitting of Sornares, feinzied fooles and vagaboundes.

ITEM, It is ſtatute and ordained, for the away putting of Sornares, ouer-lyars, and maiſterfull beggers, with horſe, houndes, or uther guddes, that all officiares, baith Schiriffes, Barronnes, Aldermen, Baillies, all weil within the Burgh, as outwith, take ane inquiſition at ilk courte, that they hald of the fore- ſaid things: And gif ony ſik be founden, that their horſe , houndes, or uther gudes be eſcheit to the King, and their perſon put in the Kinges waird, quhill the King have ſaid his will to them. And alſwa that the ſaid Schireffe, Baillies, and Officiares inquire at ilk court , gif there be onie , that makis them fuiles, and are bairdes, or uthers ſik like rinnares about. And gif onie ſik be founden, that they be put in the Kings waird, or in his irones for their treſpaſſes, als lang as they nave ony guddes of their awin to live upon , and fra they have not to live upon that their earesbe nailed to the trone, or till ane uther tree, and their eare cutted oft and baniſhed the cuntrie. And gif thereafter they be funden againe , that they be hanged.

22. Of byares of victual, and keiperes their of to ane dearth.

ITEM, It is ordained for the eſchewing of dearth within the Land, that Schireffes , Baillies, and uther Officiares, baith to burgh and to land, take and inquire at ilk courte that they hald, quhatperſons within their boundes byis victual and haldis it till a dearth. And gif it beis founden, that the Schiriffe and officiares make it knawin at ilk mercat croce to the King, quhat perſons they ar, and that they be bot as ockcrrares repute. And that they be puniſhed and demained as ockerrares ſuld be. And the victual that they have, be eſcheitted to the King.

23. It is leſum to all the Kingis Lieges to bye and ſell victual. Of auld ſtackes.

ALSWA, That na Burgeſſes nor na uther perſones, that byis ony corne or victual to ſell againe, hald visual in Burgh nor out-with, mair then will ſuſteine him and his meinzie to new corne: under the paine of eſcheit of the victual to the Kingis uſe, bot that that victual be preſented to mercattes, and ſauld as the price gois. And attour , that the Kingis Lieges in all places throwout the Realme, have power to bye & ſell victual at their liking, baith on the North half e and South halfe of Forth, ilk ane till utheris, but onie letting or impediment. And that na man hald old ſtackes in his zaird langer then Zule , under the paine of eſcheit thereof to the King.

24. Sundrie poyntes of treaſon.

ITEM, It is ſtatute and ordained, that gif onie man, as God forbid, committe or do treaſon againſt the Kingis perſon , or his Majeſtie , or riſis in feire of weir againſt him, or layis handes upon his perſon violentlie, quhat age the King be of, zoung or auld, or receiptis ony that hes committed treaſon, or that ſupplies them in helpe, redde or counſell, or that ſtuffis the houſes of them that are convict of treaſon, and haldis them againſt the King, or that ſtuffis houſes of their awin in furthering of the Kingis rebelles , or that aſſailzies Caſtelles or places quhair the Kingis perſon ſall happen to be, without the conſent of the three Eſtaites ſall be puniſhed as traitoures.

25. That the Regalities being in the Kingis hande, ſall be juſtified be the Kingis Juſtice.

ITEM, It is ordained, that all Regalities, that are in the Kingis handes, or ſall be in time tocum, be halden as Royalty &juſtified be the Kings Juſtice, quhill they remaine in the Kingis handes, and the free-halderis of the laid Regalities ſall compcir at the Juſtice aires,and their Suters within the Schireffedomes, that they are in, and to the Kinges Parliamentes and Generall Councellcs , as the free-halders of the Royaltie dois.

26. For eſchewing of maiſterfull thieft and reiſe.

ITEM, F or eſchewing of greate and maiſterfull thieft and reiſe, it is ordained, that the Juſtice do law out throw the Realme, and quhair he may not hald Juſtice of maiſterfull men, he ſall verifie and certifie the King theirof: then the King ſall provide with his ſecrcit Councell in ail haiſt remeid theirof.
