For this purpose he founded with others (in 1854) the society known as the Felibrige. Son of a prosperous farmer who married a woman of the people, educated at a small school at Avignon, and then a student of law at Aix, he died where he was born, at Maillane, not very far from Aries. He took a large part in founding the very interesting Proven9al Museum at Aries.
