LECTURE XVIII.

kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth?" Did it not express his faith that God would give him that day his daily bread, strength to suffer? Did it not manifest the meekness and forbearance of a forgiven soul, and the bright hope of safe conduct through all temptation and deliverance from evil? It was a great Amen, and the soul of that Amen was Christ, whom Cyprian worshipped, and in whom all truths and hopes were to him Amen. So let us learn to say Amen, that we may reach that end, which is better than the beginning; that end which itself is endless, where we join the song of praise, which, according to the testimony of the beloved disciple, is enclosed with the twofold Amen: Amen, blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever, Amen.

When life ends we can commit our souls, as we constantly do our prayers, to Christ, the Amen, to bring them safely to the God of glory, our Father in Heaven.

THE END.
