THE STORY OF THE UPPER ROOM,

SOME: PRESS OPINIONS.

1 A simple, devout, and profitable talk. The devout and simple-hearted reader will find Mr. Telford a competent and attractive guide in re-reading the five great chapters which enshrine the farewell words of our Lord. Christian Leader.

There were three, there are now four good books on that part of Scripture which we all believe to be the greatest ever written. Dr. Maclaren and Dr. Watson give us fine sermon-work, incisive in different directions. What shall we say of Mr. Telford? lie is devotional and practical. He is for home reading. Expository Times.

The " Story of the Upper Room " has never before been told so fully and so connectedly as in this beautifully written volume. Mr. Telford has given us a series of homilies at once practical and spiritual, in which, with independent thought and skilful workmanship, much of the essence and fragrance of choice expositions from St. Augustine to Canon Bernard and Dr. Watson have been preserved. 1 Great Thoughts.

Read with growing interest and much spiritual stimulus. It is a careful, scholarly, and devotional exposition of our Lord s last discourses. . . . Mr. Telford s spirit is reverent, and his style very attractive in its clearness. Indeed, it is hard to lay the book down. . . . We thank the author for giving us the results of much careful, reverent study, and believe that many readers will accord him that highest praise of a writer that his book has led them nearer to the Lord Jesus. Local freachcrs Magazine.

Mr. Tflford has done his work admirably well. It is a connected narrative of the records of the four evangelists concerning our Lord s farewell words to His disciples. . . . The book is full of devout insight and exposition. The only fault we have to find with it is that the price is too low. Methodist Recorder.

Evidently a labour of love, and reveals careful research made in a reverent spirit. Mr. Telford set out to exalt Christ, and he has succeeded. He has also treated his theme with freshness and force. Sword and Trowel.

A helpful treatment of a charming subject. . . . The result of many years of thought and study, the book is a real contribution to the theme with which it deals. Mr. Telford is not merely an expositor, he is also an illustrator, and his pages are made attractive with suggestive gatherings from biographical and historical literature. Christian.
