PLATE XLIII

Gushtāsp Kills a Dragon

The hero slays a dragon in serpent form. The representation of the desert scene is very well done, and Perso-Mongolian influence is strongly marked. From a Persian manuscript of the Shāhnāmah, dated 1587-88 a.d., now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
