Herts, 3 miles S.VV. of Ilitchin, its railway station and post town, and 6 N.E. of Luton. The par., which is large, is situated among the chalk hills, and contains tho hmlt. of Puthridge. It formerly belonged to King Oflii, from whom it derived its name, and who is said to have died here. After the Norman conquest it was successively possessed by the St. Legers, lioos, Boleyns, Spencers, and Salusburies. The village is chielly agricultural.
