Professor Keane says here "no full-blooded negro" has ever thus distinguished himself, and this fact cannot be denied. From an ethnological standpoint then, the place occupied by the West Soudan negro, and his relatives in the United States is now well known and clearly defined. He has been carefully studied by many minds fully capable of undertaking the task, and his status is not difficult of comprehension, as I have attempted to show in this chapter.
