The dutiful affection toward our parents and kinsfolke is not blamed, but the inordinate love of them, to the hinderance of our service & duty toward God. Upon this place some old Heretikes denied Christ to have any mother. Aug. li. de Fid. & Symb. c. 4. Neither ever, was there any heresie so absurd, but it would seeme to have Scripture for it.


Chap. XIII.

Speaking in parables (as the Scripture foretold of him, and as meet was for the reprobate Jewes:) he showeth by the parable of the Sower, that in the labours of his Church, three parts of foure do perish through the fault of the heares. 24. and yet, by the parable of good seed and cockle (as also of the Net) that his servants must not for al that, never while the world lasteth, make any Schisme or Separation. 31. And by parables of the litle Mustard seed and Leaven, that notwithstanding the three parts perishing, and oversowing of cockle, yet that fourth part of the good seed shal spread over al the world. 44. And withal, what a treasure, and pearle it is. 53. After al which, yet his owne countrie wil not honour him.

* great multitudes were gathered togeather unto him, in so much that he went up into a boat & sate: and al the multitude stood in the shore; 3and he spake to them many things in parables, saying:

Behold the Sower went forth to sow. 4And whiles he soweth, some fel by the way side, and the foules of the aire did come and eate it. 5Other some also fel upon rockie places, where they had not much earth: and they shot up incontinent, because they had not deepnes of earth, 6and after the sunne was up, they parched: and because they had not roote, they withered. 7And other fel among thornes: and the thornes grew and choked them. 8And other some fel upon good ground: and they yealded fruit, the ″ one an hundredfold, the other threescore, and an other thirtie. 9He that hath eares to heare, let him heare.

10And his Disciples came and said to him: Why speakest thou to them in parables? 11Who answered and said unto them: Because ″ to you it is given to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven: but to them it is not given. 12For he that hath, to him shal be given, and he shal abound: but he that hath not, from him shal be taken away that also which he hath. 13Therfore in parables I speake to them: because seeing they see not, and [1] hearing they heare not, neither do they understand: 14and the prophecie of Esay is fulfilled in them, which saith, With hearing shal you heare, and you shal not understand: and seeing shal you see, and you shal not see. 15For the hart of this people is waxed grosse, and with their eares they have heavily heard, and their eyes ″ they have shut: lest at any time they may see with their eyes, and heare with their eares, and understand with their hart and be converted, and I may heale them. 16But blessed are your eyes because they doe see, and
