Mary and James VI.), settled as a merchant in Paris 1634, where he acquired a considerable fortune, retm'ned to Scotland 1647, and purchased the lands and barony of Pennycuik (which is said to be held by the following "teum-e, that the proprietor must sit on a rock called the Buckstane and wind three blasts of a horn when the sovereign shall come to hunt on the Borough Muir, near Edinburgh), bp. at Fettercairn by the bishop of Caithness, 22 Dec. 1611, and d. 1674, having m.
