His son, JOHX, Knight of Kerry ; heir to his uncle Gilbert, of Ennis- more and Rahinnane, and was father of RICHARD, Knight of Kerry, obtained large estates in Cork in right of his te Maude, heiress of Lord de Courcy, and had a son, (t) "TTJILLIAM, Knight of Kerry 1407; m. Carew, wTiting in 159P, states that "of this Edmund John FitzRedmond of BaUycrjTian descends." (2) Nicholas, Knight of Kerry, having expelled his brother Edmund; father of 2 sons, — (i) Patrick, slain by the son of Jlac Carthy Mor, s. p. and JOHN (KEIGH), Knight of Kerry, called " the Blind Bishop of Ajdfert" so appointed by Pope Alexander vi. in 1495; I the family pedigree makes him brother and not son of Nicholas; the same authority states him to be father (?) of JOHX, Knight of Kerry 1530; m. Amory O'Brien, granddau. of Connor O'Brien (inaugurated King of 'Thomond in 1528), by ElUce, dau. of Maurice, 10th Earl of Desmond, and had a son, William, Knight of Kerry; m. Winifred, dau. of Edmond Fitzmaurice, 10th Lord Kerry (by Winifred, dau. of Turlogh MacMahon, lord of Corcabhaiscin, in Clare), and had 5 sons, [1] John, s. as Knight of Kerry. [2] Richard, ni. Hussey, of Kerry, and had 3 sous. [3] William, m. Ferriter, of Kerry, and had 3 sons. [4] Gibbon, a priest, father of William. [5] Oliver, m. Fitzgerald, of the Island of Kerry, and had 2 s<3ns, one of whom m. a Moriarty, of Kerry, and the other m. a Crohan, of Desmond. JOHN, Knight of Kerry; d. (as per inq. p. m.) 17 Sept. 1585, seised of Ennismore, Rathanane, &c.; m. Shela, dau. of O'Sullivan Mor, and had with other issue 2 sons, /I/ William, Knight of Kerry, a hostage for his father, 1580, aged 35 in 1595, mentioned "by the Four Masters in 1600 as " William, the sou of John, the son of William " ; d. 6 Nov. 1640. He m. dau. of Tobin, of Kilkenny, widow of Murrogh MacShee, and had a son, John, s. as Knight of Kerry. /2/ Maurice (MacRuddery), gentleman pensioner of the king in Spain 1605; m. dau. of Thomas Oge Fitzgerald, of Castle Island. JOHN, Knight of Kerry, forfeited part of his estates in 1649, and was restored in 1667 to Ennismore, Rahinnane, &c., &c.; m. Katherine, dau. of Thomas Fitzmaurice, 18th Lord of Kerry (royal descent, Edward I.), and had 4 sons and a dau. [1] Thomas, d. v. p. 1667; m. Julia, sister of Sir Edmond Everard, Bart, and had an only cliild. Amy, m. to James Fitzgerald, of Castle Ishen, co. Cork. [2] John, s. as Knight of Kerry. [3] Edmund, of Ballinclare, &c.; d. s.p. 1617. [4] Patrick, of Gallerus, m. Thomasine, dau. of Edward Spring (by Anne, dau. of Sir Nicholas Brown and Juha, dau. of O'Sullivan Beare), and had a sou and 3 daus. (1) John. (2) Lucy, m. to Richard Ferriter, issue extinct, (3) Anne, m. to Thomas Conway, of Castle Conway, co. Kerry, ancestor of Gen. Thomas Sydenham Conway, c.ij. (4) Catherine, m. to James Conway, Esq. of Cloghane, co. Kerry, and had an only dau. — Alice, m. to John Colthurst, Esq. of Ardrum, co. Cork (Bart.) [5] Elinor, m. to MacCarthy Mor, and d. s.p. JOHN, Knight of Kerry, died at Ennismore. 1681 (w. p. 12 Nov. 1681), m. Honora, dan. of Connor O'Brien, 2nd 'Vis- count Clare (royal descent), and had 4 sons and 4 daus. (1) Maurice, s. as Knight of Kerry. (2) John, d. s.p. (3) Daniel, of BaUinniddery and KiUacrim 1742; m. 13 Nov. 1706, EUinor, dau. of Darby Long, of Monollig, in Cork (out* lawed 1691), and had 3 sons and 3 daus. [1] John, of Ballinrudderj', d. s.p. 1757; he m. Anne, dau. of Rev. Henry Parr, by Martha, dau. of Thomas Blenner* hassett, and widow of F. Mullins, Esq. [2] William. [3] Mamice, capt. in Lord Clare's (Marshal Thomond's) regt. in French service ; d. num. 1768. E4] Honoro, m. to Francis GriflBn, and had a dau. 5] EUinor, m. 1st, to Richard Griffin, of Glenalappa, co, Kerry, and 2ndly, to Wilham Burke, and had issue. [6] Susan, m. to John Hickson, of Fermoyle, co. Kerry, and had 5 sons. (4) Thomas, of Ardglas, and had at least one dau. — Joan, m. to Edward, brother of Thomas Conway, aforesaid. (*) Betham states this 2nd wfe to have been dau. of Hugh O'Connor Kerry, but the Carewe pedigrees ami others state the issue of this 2ud marriage were illegitimate. (t) Richard, Knight of Kerry, had a natural son, Richard, whom the Earl of Desmond made seneschal of ImokUly, and capt. of his kerne. He also had a natural son William, father of James FitzwiUiam, dean of Cloyne 1535, ancestor of Fitzgerald, of Cloyne, Castle Ishiu, Lisquinlan, aud of Corkbegg. <?2
