Palatine, Chester, said to be descended from Sir John Mansel, chancellor of London, and provost of Beverley, keeper of the great seal 1246 8), chamberlain of Chester, knighted 1572; d. 5 Aug. 1595, having m. Lady Jane Somerset, youngest dau. of Henry, Earl of Worcester; she d. 16 Oct. 1597, having had 15 sons and 3 daus. of whom 3 sons, viz. — (1) Sir Thomas, knighted 1591, knight of the shire co. Mont- gomery, 39 Q. Elizabeth, created a Baronet 22 May, 1611, third in order of precedency; m. 1st, Mary, dau. of Lewis, Lord Mordaunt. He m. 2ndly, Jane, dau. and sole heir to Thomas Pole, of Bishops Hall, Middx. (wdow, 1st, of John Bussey, of Hainor, co. Line, and 2udly, of John Fullerl. He d. 20 Dec. 1631; bur. at Margam ; ancestor of the extinct Barons Mansel. (2) Sir Francis, created a Baronet. Carmarthen, Knt. and Bart, so created 14 Jan. 1621/2; m. 1st, Catherine, dau. and coheir of Henry Morgan, of Muddlescombe aforesaid, and had 3 sons. (1) Sir Anthony, Knt. slain at Newby,Yorks. temp. Charles I. by Jane, dau. of WiUiam Price, of Britton Ferry, left a sou, Sir Edward, 2nd Baronet; died without male issue. Bart. (2) Francis, S.T.P. principal of Jesus Coll.
