[son of John Slade, a commissioner of the victualling board (by Charlotte, yoimgest dau. of Henry Portal, Esq. of Freefolk Priors, Hants.), grandson of Henry Slade, of Burstock, Dorset, and his wife Mary Case], gen. in the army, col. 5th dragoon guards, served in the Peninsula under Sir John Moore and under the Duke of WeUington, was at Corunna (gold medal and clasp), and had his horse shot imder him at Fuentes d'Onor, twice received the thanks of the house of commons, equerry to H.K.H. Duke of Cumberland ; created a Baronet 30 Sept. 1831 ; b. 31 Dec. 1762 ; d. 13 Aug. 1859, having m. Ist — 20 Sept. 1792, Anna Eliza, "daughter" of James Dawson, Esq. of Fork Hill, co.
