WARREN. 641 The Baronetcy. The descent here given from 'Williani, 4th son of Sir Henry Warcllaw, 2ucl Baronet, to the present bearer of the title, has been very courteously supplied by Messrs. Duncan and Archi- bald, of Edinburgh, solicitors to Sir Henry Wardlaw. The information is unfortunately most meagre, and this is clearly a case for investigation prior to the title being oflacially acknow- ledged. Eineage. SIR HENRY WARDLAW, of Balmule and Pitreavie (the 9th successive knight of the family, and descended from Sir Henry Wardlaw, of Torrie, co. Fife, by his wife who was a niece of Walter, great steward of Scotland), chamberlain to Q. AXNH of Scotland, consort to JAMES VI. 1603. According to Playfair he m. Elizabeth Wilson, and had with 3 daus. 5 sons, of whom the eldest, SIB HENRY, of Pitreavie, created a Baroxet of NOVA SCOTIA 5 Mar. 1631. Acconling to Playfair he had by his 1st wife, who is not named, an eldest son Henry who succeeded him, and 4 daus. He m. 2ndly— 1653, Margaret, 2nd dau. of Sir Jolin Henderson, of Fordell, Knt. and had a dau. She re-m. to Hay, of Naughton. His sou, SIR HENRY, 2nd Baronet, m. 24 April, 1672, Elizabeth, dau. of John Skeene, of Hallyards, having had with other issue 4 sons, [1] Sir Henrv, 3rd Baronet, m. 13 June, 1696, Elizabeth, 2nd dau. of Sir Charles Halkett, Bart, and had with 3 daus. an only son. Sir Henry, 4th Baronet, d. s. p. [2] Sir George, 5th Baronet, father, by Miss Oliphant, of Sir Henry, 6th Baronet, in the army; d. s. p. [3] Su- David, of Craighouse, 7th Baronet; m. 1st Jean Rol- land, heiress of Dnmicaple and Craighouse. He m. 2ndly, Jean Mercer, of Aldie. By his 1st wife he had with 2 daus. an only son, Sir Henry, s. as 8th Baronet, d. Feb. 1782, having m. Janet Taylor, and had with 5 daus. a son. Sir David, 9th Baronet, d. 13 April, 1793, having m. Margaret, dau. of Andrew Symson, town clerk of Dunferm- line, and had with 3 daus. 5 sons, of whom the youngest, Sir John, 10th Baronet, Ueut.-col. 64th regt. d. without surviving male issue 1823; he m. Jean, 2nd dau. of Charles Mitchell, of Piteadie and Balbridge (sister of Adm. Sir Andrew MitcheU, and of Sir Charles MitcheU); she d. 16 Feb. 1800. [4] William, b. 1680 ; m. Mary Bisset, and had with other issue, d. unm., a son, Alexander, oflScer of excise ; m. Cork mil. since 1865, sherifi Cork 1867; s. his father as 5th Baronet in 1863 ; b. 2i Aug. 1833 ; m. 28 April, 1864, Georgina, eldest dau. of Rev. Cork, an officer in Royalist army; will dated 13 May, 1661, proved 1 July, 1662); m. 1684, Elizabeth, dau. of Thomas Knowlles, Esq. and had with 2 daus. 2 sons, of whom the elder, ROBERT WARREN, of KilbaiTy, co. Cork; m. Anne, sister of William Crooke, of Muskerv; his will dated April 1742 proved 13 Nov. 1743, having had with 2 daus. 2 sous, ' (1) Sir Robert, created a Baronet.
