Francis Coke, of Lower Moor, CO. Hereford ; she d. 12 April, 1879, haing had 3 sons, [1] Devereux Plantagenet, R. Scots greys; b. 9 Jime, 1828; d. unm. at Rome 3 May, 1850. [3] George William, capt. late 42nd highlanders (black watch), formerly brigade major of Ryzabad ; b. 14 Jan. 1838; m. 5 June, 1861, Emily Sarah, only dau. of Yen. John Cleugh, archdeacon of Malta, and has had 6 sons and 5 daus. COLLETON. No official record of this pedigree has ever been made beyond a Visitation entry, neither does a record of arms exist ; the coat used by the family belongs to Ridgway ; in the printed pedigrees (Burke, 1834 to 1881) the 6th Baronet is said to have married 2 Dec. 1788, and his son, the 7th Baronet, to have been born 22 Dec. 1783. (Sib) George "William, rector of Scrayingham, York, 1881, vicar of Bekes- bourne, Kent, 1881, master Cheltenham College 1860/1, author of several works on the history of Greece and Greek mythology, claims to be male representative of Sir Richard Cox, lord high chan- cellor Ireland 1703/7, chief justice Queen's Bench 1711/14, created a Baeo>tet of Ireland 21 Nov. 1706, on the death of whose descendant Sir Francis Hawtrey Cox in 1873 the male line and therefore the title was believed to have become extinct. The Rev. G."V. Cox assumed the baronetcy in 1877, on the death of his uncle Col. (Sir) Edmund Cox, capt. 87th Irish fusiliers (son ofWilliam Nichols Cox, R.A.), who had also assumed the baronetcy, with- out disclosing his pedigree. The Crown presented the present vicar to Scrayingham as a baronet 11 June, 1881 ! ! ! Title acknowledged by Lodge's Peerage and Baronetage, Wat- ford's County Families, and Kelly's Upper Ten Thousand. COX, Lieut.-Gen. (Sir) John Hamilton, c.b. late 75th regt. (son of Major-Gen. William Cox, K.H.), also claims heirship to the preceding baronetcy as 1st cousin (maternally) of late Sir Francis Hawtrey Cox, Bart. Title acknowledged by Kelly's Upper Ten Thousand. CRAWFUED-POLLOK, (Sir) Hew, of Pollok (1642, N.S.), s. his father in 1867; b. 1843; m. 8 June, 1871, Annie Elizabeth Green, of Hull. (Sir) Hew is great-grandson of (Sir) Hugh Crawfurd, of Jordan Hill, who, 19 July, 1765, was served heir male of Sir John Crawfurd, of Kilbirnie, (who was created a Baronet of Nova Scotia, 1642), and had a grant of supporters from the Lyon Office, 11 Sept. same year (1765). There is no pub- lished pedigree showing the connection of the present Baronet and the original grantee. See Playfair's account of Nova Scotia Baronets, and also Burke's Peerage, where, by the way, it is stated that the first Baronet died in 1603, having been created 1638, and that the title remained dormant for more than 150 years, until 11 Sept. 1765. Helen, dau. of Sir Hew Campbell, ancestor of the Earls of Loudoxm. and had, with other issue, 2 sons, [1] Hew. of Kilbirnie (eldest son), ancestor of Sir John Crawfurd, created a Baronet of Nova Scotia (the patent is not recorded in the great seal register) : said by Mr. Crawfurd in his History of Renfrew to have been made a Baronet 1642, and he is so designated in the Lyon OflBce; died M.P. Sir John Crawford settled his estate by entail, 31 July. 1662, on this daughter with remainder to the heirs male and female of her body, who assumed the surname of Crawford; her eldest son John, was created Viscount Garnock 1703, "et heredihus mascuhs sui corporis, qmbus deficientibus, aliis propinquioribus hieredibus suis masculis," and his male line ended on the death of his great-grandson, George Lindsay Crawford, 20th Earl of Crawford, 6th Earl of Lindsay, and 5th Viscount Garnock, 30 Jan. 1608, imm.
