manufactories of ſilk and cotton, where merchants can be ſupplied on better terms than in any other part of India. The city of Muxadabad, to which I had been led by curioſity, is the mart of an extenſive trade among the natives, ſuch as the Moguls, Parſees, Muſ ſulmen, and Hindoos; the houſes are neat, but not uniform; as every dwelling is conſtructed according to the peculiar fancy of the proprietor: thoſe of the merchants are in general: on a good plan, and built of fine brick made in the country and ſuch as have been, erected by the ſervants of the Company, near the town, are very handſome ſturctures.
