His stipend had throughout been ^58 per annum. In 1699 Anna Chevers was, at the borough court, found guilty of stealing a " Bible," value tenpence, and sentenced to be whipped. We would not omit to mention that, immediately after the King's restoration, the Mayor caused the cushions of the church to be repaired, the king's arms to be set up at a cost of £5, and a new hour-glass to be provided.
