triarck of Æthiopia Don Alphonſo Mendez wrote from Goa to the Cardinalls of the Congregation de propagandâ fide; who for his Learning, Authority, and Vertue, and above all, for his experience on Miſſions, wherein he laboured and ſuffered much, doth very much deſerve to be believed. He ſaith thus:

But at the end of this Letter I do judge it not from our purpoſe to bemind your Eminencies, that God hath formerly commanded, that a vine-yard ſhould not be ſowed with diverſe ſeeds; nor that a garment ought to be woven of Linnen and Woollen, with which the Queen and Spouſe is to be cloathed, wherein is implied, That the ſeverall inſtitutions and different manners of living of Religious Orders, ought not to be entruded upon young and tender Churches, ſuch as are but yet a manner ſucklings; but only to be introduced into ſuch Churches, as are come to their full ſtrength, and are fortified by a long continuance of years. For many times, emulation growing among them, and many wanting prudence, and others abounding in an indiſcreet zeale, they many things, which tend rather to ruine than edification &c.
