words used by the Order are to be found in the readings up, down, across and diagonally. Like all other productions emanating from the Ancient Brotherhood, the word "Magic" appears across the middle and the sacred G occupies the place of light in the center.
At the other side a magic square appears, that has proved a "sphinx" to all who have attempted its solution thus far. It was evidently constructed by a brother of the Order, as appears in the diagonal line, but what the meaning can be no one knows. Some think it has some connection with our Temple at Memphis, while others fail to see it that way. At any rate the words are unintelligible to moderns and will remain so until some person solves the riddle. The only explanation that has survived and come down to us with it, is that it contained a secret of the Order, the key to which was thrown away by a "brother of the sacred line," It was placed in the mystic chart in order that all mystics might have a chance to study it.
We have only given a few points in this work, upon a subject that is practically infinite. We have given enough, however, to lead any mystic mind forward in a search for more light. The light will be found, too, by those who seek for it in the right spirit. We know, of course, that thousands who read this book will feel an ambition to be able to exhibit the mystic powers that they have read of. To all
