but those in Rinaldo and Riccardo extend to the D′′′ above this, and that in the Water Music to the high E′′′, Probably all these passages were written for a small flute-à-bec, and not for a transverse piccolo, which would therefore appear never to have been used by Handel; but it is to be noticed that in some cases they
