The Worsted Man When one turns back from Jane and May And Sue and Prue and Kate for Sarah! Deep is the heartache that racks the breast, Fired for one and chilled for the rest. (Sighs.) Heigho! I know not what I shall do. As yet I have no heart, and as for my excelsior mind, it is racked with doubt. The law says flirt not on pain of unravelment, and yet how can I deny my smiles to Marianna while beaming pleasantly on Babette ? Why should I call Marianna sweetheart while casting an icy shoe-button I, ah, should say eye on fair Priscilla ? Why should the cotton pulse beneath my zephyr wristlets beat madly for Priscilla and remain unmoved when I feel the soft pressure of Janette s hand upon my mitts? Alas, I know not what to do!
