A PORTRAIT.

[Gregory ]

EYES like summer twilight grey,
Tranquil as the sleeping sea ;
With a light from far away
Shining softly all for me.

Hands that on the ruddy sands
Gleam with whiteness, pale and fair,
With the gems of many lands
Resting, strangely homelike, there.

Lips half-parted, where mine eyes
Watch the words she will not speak ;
Watch the throbbing thoughts that rise
With the flush that rounds her cheek.
