BAAL, we cry to thee from morning till even,
With the cry of the beasts that are slain, and of men that are wounded
Wilt thou not hear us, Baal, the god of our fathers?

Deafness and dumbness hath Baal, the god of the heathen ;
Yet through the cry of the people there pierceth a whisper,
Far as the distance of God, yea, far off as the heavens,
